This series of posts focuses on an A-Z theme for April in 2025. I have chosen events that occurred On This Day in April of years in the past. These events are recorded in my genealogy database.
Sometimes one learns through new online sources and courses, but some of my recent learning came from a visit to family in South Australia where a wealth of family history material had been retained.
On this day - 14th April
1869 - Birth: Andrew Joseph HORGAN, Tarlee, South Australia, Australia
My paternal grandfather was born on this day in 1869.

My husband's paternal grandparents, I have written about their early years together in Dressed for the Occasion

Edward Andrew Callery - marriage - 1st cousin once removed on my paternal side, my father's 1st cousin.
John Callery, Edward's father had married Catherine Teresa Smyth a paternal grandaunt in 1897. Edward was the only son of that marriage. His mother Catherine died when he was only 10 years old.
1926 - Marriage: Edward Andrew CALLERY and Frances Gertrude BRENNAN, Riverton, South Australia, Australia
CALLERY — BRENNAN. — On April 14 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Riverton, by the Rev. Father Brady, assisted by the Rev. Father Lopez, Edward Andrew, only son of Mr. John Callery, Riverton, to Gertrude Frances, youngest, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Brennan, Riverton. (1)
Edward was 25 and Gertrude was 24 when they married on the 14 April 1926. We knew them as Uncle Ted and Auntie Gert.
Their four sons were 2nd cousins to my generation. Their sons: John died in 1989, Jim (Edward James) in 2006 and Peter in 2012.
Ted and Gert are buried together in Navan Catholic Cemetery near Riverton.

Terrific when cousins share family history memorabilia - it really helps to bering the tree to life.
ReplyDeleteWhen I have been able to contact multiple branches, I end up with different photographs and sometimes different memories and stories.
ReplyDeleteI have family that came out from England and then went off to South Australia. I'd love to do a research trip there one day.
ReplyDeleteAren't memorial cards and funeral card fab resources. It would be wonderful if someone could harvest all of these that are hiding in personal collections and index and sort them.
ReplyDeleteI was fortunate enough to get quite a few re my Kunkel and O’Brien families from a 4th cousin in Sydney.
